5 Steps To Recovering Your Golf Swing

Ever lost the feel of your swing during a round? All of us have. Sometimes we let our hands and arms dominate our swing. That causes us to come into the ball too steeply, short-circuiting power and causing us to mis-hit.

Other times, we lose the rhythm of our swing and feel like we’ve never swung a club be-fore. Whatever the reason, losing the feel of your swing hurts. So what do you do to re-cover your swing?

Below is a five-step drill that can help you recover your swing.

1. Hit single lever pitch shots
2. Hit shots with wrists cocked
3. Add some shoulder turn
4. Roll your arms to increase power
5. Make a full backswing and hip turn

Find a range where you can hit short shots safely. Take your address position with a 7-iron. Drop a ball in the middle.

1. Begin by hitting some single-lever pitch shots. This generates the feel of making solid contact again. Take the club back to a 7:30 position on a clock.

2. Setup to the ball again. Now hit shots with your wrists slightly cocked. Take the club back to about the 9:00 position.

3. Setup a third time. Hit shots again but add some shoulder-turn. Focus on creating an in-to-out swing path with longer extension through the swing. Take the club back to the 10:00 position.

4. Repeat the effort, but add a little more shoulder turn and roll your forearms. This increases power, teaches you to release through impact, and promotes a draw. Take the club back to the 10:00 position.

5. Setup again. Make a full backswing and full finish. Be conscious of using your hips to power your swing.

Hit 7-10 shots at each step. Keep repeating the drill until you recover your rhythm (and power).
