Improve Your Green Reading Skills

Want to sink more putts? Improve your green reading skills. Green reading is one of the most underrated aspects of putting. You must read the green correctly to find the right line to start the putt on—especially with breaking and double breaking putts.  If you can’t determine the line, you’ll need a lot of luck to sink the putt.

Below is a drill that improves green reading skills:

Find a large practice green. Drop balls at different places on the green. Make sure these places have different curves to them.  If you can find a putt that has two breaks to it,  that’s even better. Read each putt from behind the ball, behind the hole, and from each side. Take note of where you best see the true break. Do this fairly quickly. Then take your setup and putt the ball.

This drill teaches green reading skills. Determining the right line to start your putt off is paramount to draining more putts—especially those double-breaking putts.
