Practicing is boring. So for the next several newsletters we’ll be providing games you can play at the practice range or on the green instead of drills. Games “spice up” your practice sessions. They’re fun to play and they’ll shrink your golf handicap fast.
Play Three
In this game you’ll hit three shots in a row to the same target, changing just one variable in the shot—the club.
Pick out a target on the practice range. Now try to hit that spot using three different clubs. The shots must land within 10 yards of the spot to be good. If you fail to hit a shot that counts as a good shot with any club, start over. Limit yourself to hitting 21 balls. Then change distance and clubs.
As you get better at the game, get more demanding. Your goal can be to hit three different shot shapes (fade, draw, straight).
Or, you can also try hitting three different trajectories (low, medium, high) or from three different lies (fairway, rough, downhill).
Make it a challenge, but also make it fun.
