Never Come Up Short Again: Getting a Better Feel For Your Putting Speed

Improving your putting speed is the best way to melt away strokes from your scores. So if you’re serious about breaking 80, you need to make more putts—especially those tough breaking putts that leave you ready to throw your putter away.
That’s easier said than done. To do it, you’ll have to master your feel for speed on the greens. Below is a drill that can help you make more breaking putts:
Putting Speed Drill
Find a right to left breaking putt. Put two tees in front of the hole about an inch or so apart. Now find a spot about 7 feet away. Your goal is to putt the ball with just enough speed to get the ball to go around the tees and enter the high side of the hole. That’s usually the right side of the hole.
Once you’ve mastered this, spread the tees enough to let a ball go through them. Place the tees so that they frame the width of the hole at the entry point of the putt. Now make your putt.
Repeat the same exercise but use a hole with a left-to-right break. Practice both drills at different distances until you’ve mastered the different distances and lies on the green.
