Master Your Golf Driver Swing

Getting Square At Impact

You must square the clubface at impact to hit an iron pure. This isn’t always easy to do. Some golfers try to do it by rotating their hands just before impact. Others try to do it by moving their shoulders to the left. Good golfers, on the other hand, square the clubface using their left hand and forearm together. The drill below teaches this move.

Squaring The Clubface Drill:

Address the ball with a 7-iron. Swing to the top and stop. Remove your right hand. Then slowly bring the club down with your left arm only. As you bring the club slowly back to the ball, use your left arm to rotate the clubface to square before impact. If you do this move correctly, it should be dead square when it reaches the impact zone.

The more slowly you do this drill, the better. Using just your left forearm lets you feel the left-forearm rotation needed to square the clubface. Keep working on this drill until you’ve incorporated the correct move in your swing.
