Balance is the key to hitting a ball solidly, especially if it’s below your feet. If your balance is off, your swing is off. If your swing is off, you’ll probably mis-hit the shot. Improve your balance and you’ll hit straighter and longer golf shots. Maintaining proper balance during your shot is a golf skill you can learn by practicing it on a continual basis.
Feet Together Drill:
Grab a 7-iron and get in your normal setup position. Now bring your two feet together. Start taking some short, slower swings (pitch shots). Gradually increase your swing’s length. Once you’re comfortable doing this, try to hit golf balls off a tee with your feet together. Again, start by taking short, slower swings. Gradually increase the length and pace. After awhile, you’ll able to hit solid shots at your target while maintaining good balance and not stepping out of your stance.
Practice this drill if balance is a problem for you. You’ll be surprised how much better your ballstriking will be thanks to doing this drill. You’ll find it hard to break 80 if your balance is off when taking a full swing.
