Master Your Golf Driver Swing

Back! Hit! Stop! Drill Boosts Power And Accuracy

If you’re like many golfers, when you overswing, you speed up your transition from the top. This throws your swing completely out of sync, and causes you to lose a sense of where the club is in the swing. That’s a problem. Overswinging can cause you to mis-hit shots. The drill below—another five-ball drill—can cure this swing flaw.

Start by taking practice swings with your driver. As you do, say “Back!” at the top of the swing, “Hit!” at impact, and “Stop!” at the end of your swing. Practice this drill until your vocalizations are in sync with what you’re doing. Do this several times.

Now hit five balls using the same sequence of words. Pay special attention to the timing of when you say the words. If it’s earlier than what it should be, you may be trying to muscle or “force” the shot. This kills power. Hit five balls each time you do the drill, one after another.

Practice this drill until you have your timing down pat. This drill cures you of overswing-ing and boosts power and accuracy.
