Proper Golf Stance

6 Steps To Finding The Perfect Swing Plane

Some golfers use a one-plane swing. Others use a two-plane swing. Both ways work. In fact, you could probably find great Tour players in both camps. What’s critical isn’t how many planes you use, but staying on plane as you come into the ball. That’s the key to solid contact, pinpoint accuracy, and awesome power. But how do you know what the right swing plane is for you?

Below is a simple 6-step process helps you find the right swing plane:

1. Grip the club in your left hand
2. Hold the club in front of you
3. Rotate your wrists to the right
4. Bend over slightly from the hips
5. Rotate the club back
6. Place you other hand on the club

It’s best to use a mid-iron for this exercise, rather than a short iron or a wedge. They aren’t long enough.

1. Grip the club in your left hand. Use your right hand if you left-handed.

2. Hold the club out directly in front of you perpendicular to the grown, with he club’s grip at the bottom.

3. Rotate your wrists to the right so the club’s shaft is parallel to the ground. Rotate the club to the left if you’re left-handed

4. Bend over slightly as is if you were addressing the ball. Keep the club parallel to the ground.

5. Take the club back as if you were making a backswing. Retain your spine angle. The club’s butt end should point toward the ball.

6. Place your other hand on the club.

Voila! You’ve found the perfect swing plane for you. Also, try to retain the feeling you had with just the left hand on the club coming into the ball. It’s critical to hitting them straight and long.

Staying on plane during your swing encourages solid and increases power and accuracy. But you need to find the right swing plane for you.
