This is the third in our series of practice games. Games can make practicing more fun. If it’s more fun, you’ll put more time into perfecting your skills:
To break 80, you’ll need to beat different lies. Playing Knockout at the range can help you master the most common lies:
Find an open area where you can hit different length shots. Make sure the practice area presents with different lies—level fairway, uphill, downhill, deep rough, ball above your feet, and everyone’s favorite, ball below your feet.
Take your stance. Pick out a target about 30 yards away. Now hit practice shots from that distance using the 6 different lies. When you hit a shot that stops within 6 feet of your target, you’ve “knocked out” that lie. Move on to the next lie. Your score: the total number of shots it takes to go through the six lies.
This drill not only sharpens your ability to hit from different lies, it also teaches you dis-tance and direction control. Play it with a friend or alone, but have fun with it.
